Hearing In Colour

The end of the month has rolled around again and that means it's time for another The Polished Bookworms mani!

October's book was All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, a poetic Bildungsroman alternating between a young blind girl staying hidden in France, and a young boy doing
his best to blend in in Germany, at the onset of WWII. I instantly fell in love with Doerr's writing, every sentence so beautiful and so easy to picture: a million opportunities for mani inspo! It was also interesting to see two sides of the same story happening as Marie-Laure and Werner's experiences trace the events leading up to and in the war.

One passage in particular that stuck with me was when Doerr explains what Marie-Laure sees in her blindess; essentially, she hears colours (page 44 in Scribner 2014 edition). Church bells are bronze, bees are silver, pigeons are golden. That is where the inspiration for my mani came from this month.

China Glaze's "Point Me To The Party" is the star here, shining through the darkness that is Aurora's gel effect "Inky Dinky," all mattified to add a satin, dreamy appearance.

I do feel like a bit of a one-trick-pony for using one polish for two TPB manis in a row, but it was just so appropriate for this metaphor! A little bottle full of pigeons and cyprus tree branches and scientists.

I absolutely recommend this book. It is a bit of a commitment at 530 pages, but every page is full of loyalty, family, friendship, survival, in the most beautiful combination of words possible.
