Hello again. 10 years deep into my nail art hobbyist career and still going strong with the polish, but very weak with the blog. I find myself re-addicted to reading, and in a couple of nail art book groups, so it is time. Time to return to the love of providing my own written word to the World Wide Web.
Being adddicted to the social media, I, like my fellow addicts, have a mile-long TBR full of recommendations from “Booktok.” When certain titles are repeatedly mentioned as the best, and often given 6/5*, and voted “Goodreads Choice Award Winner for Readers’ Favorite Young Adult Fantasy (2024)”, you just have to make sure for yourself.
For #LastBookIReadCollab, I went with “Ruthless Vows” from The “Letters of Enchantment” Duology by Rebecca Ross. This series is appropriately hyped. The books have few flaws and left me feeling feels. It is mainly a historical wartime piece, but in a world with gods and magic. Some of the war stuff did go over my head, but I do know that I love this love story. Ross’s writing is gorgeous; I, too, would read Iris or Roman’s letters every night - their words are so beautiful. While one may consider the love “rushed,” Iris had valid justification about how tomorrow is not guaranteed, so you need to love now. Roman’s speech near the end of book 2 made my heart sing. Ross’ writing style is so beautiful, her characters so loveable. I need nothing more. Except, more of it.
I couldn’t pick one moment (couldn’t trust myself to do it enough justice) so I have simply done a cover recreation for the series conclusion, “Ruthless Vows.”
For the blue “smoke”, I mixed a blue creme with topcoat to make the polish watery for the smoky effect.
I drew my typewriter keys on a silicone mat to make decals and placed them with intention on the thumb. I am so pleased with how these turned out - justice served.
Also quick shout out to public libraries: I was only able to read this duology (and 90% of my recent reads) thanks to the power of my local library 💳📚💕
